A few moments from the 2025 regatta.
Rowing is the sport of propelling a boat with oars, moving fast and in sync as a crew. Indoor rowing takes that same stroke onto the ergometer — a stationary rowing machine — so athletes race each other side by side over a fixed distance, no water required.
The KBC Annual Indoor Rowing Regatta puts this to the test at scale: rowers from schools, colleges, and clubs across Karachi line up on ergs side by side for one day of head-to-head racing, hosted by Karachi Boat Club — on the water since 1881.
Anyone can enter — schools, colleges, universities, clubs, and gyms field full rosters, and individuals are just as welcome, registering as a one-rower team. Every entry lands in one of 9 age & weight categories, from Under 13 through Masters C.
On race day, expect 52 timed pieces run back to back — 500m sprints for the younger and Masters categories, 2000m for Under 17 through Open — with teams, coaches, and families filling the venue to watch.
No — indoor rowing on the ergometer is its own discipline. Most competitors already row with a school, college, or club programme, but the ergometer motion is straightforward to pick up regardless of on-water background.
Yes — anybody can enter: schools, colleges, universities, clubs, and gyms, as well as individuals. A school or club registers a team with a full roster; an individual registers the same way, just as a team of one.
A rower can be listed as a substitute in as many events as needed, but can only compete (race) in a maximum of two events. See Rules & Fees below for the full eligibility ladder.
Around 1 minute 30 seconds for a 500m sprint, up to about 8 minutes for a 2000m race. See the full race schedule for exact times.
Yes — spectators are welcome at the Sports & Rehabilitation Centre, Aga Khan University, on race day.
* Reserved for a qualification day for events where required. Qualification will take place at Karachi Boat Club.
